Last week, I was gifted the opportunity to do a different sort of interview. I sat down to record my first podcast with a podcast legend.  Matt Kolowski patiently let me ease into my interview of him (as well as waiting for me to figure out the right programs to run).  Matt, aka @slim, has probably recorded more hours of audio than I have spoken in my life. Honestly, being a big fan of his already, I was nervous as all heck. But he propelled me beyond my limited capabilities. True talent, at it's best, comes with little self aggrandizing and without being overt.

I played a lot of pick up basketball in college. A few times, guys who played on the actual college team, NCAA tournament particpants, would play with us.  Initial expectations were that we were just going to be serving as extras in their showcase of basketball superiority.  However, their handle of the game was instead displayed in how they lead everyone else. They set plays, coached, and seemed to find more enjoyment getting an amateur player to score on a pick and roll than they would dunking over them.

Matt Kolowski set pick and rolls for me all night.  Listen to how he lead me into asking follow up questions and generated a great discussion.  I love interviewing but I never had thought about formulating the structure for audio playback before. You might speak to a creator who sees the whole picture even while the are in the creative trenches. He was molding this conversation into a cohesive product on the fly. He took a guy with a mush mouth who doesn't finish a thought, and made him sound half way decent. Imagine your first time shooting hoops and LeBron's on your team.

Also, please do check out (and click on) these excellent shows below, especially if you seek the best in podcasts regarding comic books. I attached myself to the Paperkeg Radio Syndicate basically for the reasons discussed in our interview.  At work, on commutes, while drawing, or sleeping my infant babies in my arms; these shows, these co-hosts Matt collaborated with, have all been comfort food for my soul throughout the years.
